DESCRIPTION:Transporters belonging to the Solute Carrier (SLC) family are
integral membrane proteins that play essential roles in human physiology.
They predominantly control the availability of metabolites and drugs withi
n the body. More recently\, SLC architectures have been discovered in prot
eins that act as trafficking receptors and intracellular signalling scaffo
lds. How SLC proteins accomplish these varied tasks is still unclear. My t
alk will discuss how SLCs control nutrient and drug transport in response
to changes in cellular ion homeostasis and how SLCs have used similar mech
anisms to function as trafficking receptors and signalling systems within
 the cell.
LOCATION:In person in the Max Perutz Lecture Theatre (CB2 0QH) and via Zoo
