DESCRIPTION:Dr. Magnus Richardson (Warwick University) will present\n\nThe
  microcircuit of pyramidal cells and local inhibitory interneurons is thou
 ght to be a fundamental motif of neocortical structure. Not all the parame
 ters of the microcircuit are well quantified\, however. Here I will descri
 be some recent work we have done to describe the statistics of synaptic tr
 ansmission between layer-5 pyramidal cells and to develop simplified model
 s of the neurons of the microcircuit. These models  - a form of non-linear
  integrate-and-fire model - are analytically tractable and\, time allowing
 \, I will describe how the firing-rate properties of the models may be der
 ived analytically using the Fokker-Planck method.\n\nIt will take place as
