DESCRIPTION:Cambridge Neuroscience hosts a night of ‘Music and Mind’\,
  an exploration into the issues surrounding mental health and its treatmen
 t through music.\n\nLive music will be the emphasis of the evening with pe
 rformances from Dr. Cheryl Frances-Hoad\, Lynette Alcántara\, Jeremy Vino
 gradov\, Fusae Takahashi and the Looney Tunes Music Group. \n\nThe event i
 s free to the public and will be held at the West Road Concert Hall\, Camb
 ridge\, from 6:30 – 9.00pm\, 29 September 2009. \n\nNeuroscientists from
  across Cambridge will be on hand during a wine reception prior to the con
 cert as well as after the concert to discuss their research and how they h
 ope it may increase fundamental understanding of the brain and improve pat
 ient treatment. \n\n*Professor Peter Jones*\, Head of the Department of Ps
 ychiatry will introduce the evening by exploring the links between creativ
 ity\, musical composition\, mental health and illness\, with particular re
 ference to song. The talk will be followed by a selection of songs by Robe
 rt Schumann- The Many Moods\, performed by *Lynette Alcántara* (mezzo-sop
 rano)\, *Jeremy Vinogradov* (baritone) and *Fusae Takahashi* (pianist).\n\
 nFollowing Professor Jones\, will be a performance entitled Hidden Lives f
 rom *Simon Gunton and the Looney Tunes Music Group*\, Cambridge Regional C
 ollege. This performance will entail three separate narratives that each t
 ell their own tale of a prominent historical figure who suffered from some
  form of mental illness. The Looney Tunes music group is a community based
  initiative run from the Cambridge Resource Centre (Norfolk St) that works
  specifically with individuals who suffer from mental illness.\n\n*Dr. Che
 ryl Frances-Hoad*\, Composer in Residence at the Department of Psychiatry\
 , will perform her new work for solo piano entitled The Synchronisation an
 d Tempo of the Mind to be premiered at the symposium. Her work is inspired
  by research witnessed and undertook during her year as a Leverhulme Trust
  Artist in Residence at the Cambridge University Department of Psychiatry.
