DESCRIPTION:Reductive activation of simple cobalt(II) complexes leads to h
ighly reactive catalyst systems for various carbon-carbon bond forming pro
cesses. The catalysts can be used to generate various cyclical systems fro
m four-membered rings up to eight-membered rings in unprecedented intermol
ecular transformations. Also\, acyclic 1\,4-dienes can be generated from s
imple starting materials. The high functional group tolerance is remarkabl
e and opens the way to a wide variety of follow-up reactions. Mechanistic
insights will elucidate the reasons which permit the cobalt catalysts to b
e tuned\, which leads to the very destinct observed reaction pathways.
