DESCRIPTION:Many optimal control\, estimation and design problems can be f
 ormulated as so-called dynamic optimization problems\, which are optimizat
 ion problems with differential equations and other constraints. State-of-t
 he-art methods based on collocation\, which enforce the differential equat
 ions at only a finite set of points\, can struggle to solve certain dynami
 c optimization problems\, such as those with high-index differential algeb
 raic equations\, consistently overdetermined constraints or problems with 
 singular arcs. We show how numerical methods based on integrating the diff
 erential equation residuals can be used to solve dynamic optimization prob
 lems where collocation methods struggle or fail.\n\nThe seminar will be he
