DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, partial integro-differential equation models de
 scribing the spatial spread and evolutionary dynamics of heterogeneous cel
 l populations will be considered. In these models\, a continuous structuri
 ng variable captures intercellular variability in cell proliferation and m
 igration rates. A formal derivation of such deterministic\, continuum mode
 ls from corresponding stochastic\, individual-based models will be carried
  out\, analytical and numerical results summarising the behaviour of the s
 olutions to the model equations will be presented\, and the insights gener
 ated by these results into the mechanisms that underpin collective cell mi
 gration will be briefly discussed.
