DESCRIPTION:We present results of modelling collective ant behaviour as an
interacting active particle system. We show results of stability analysis
\, time-dependent simulations of the large particle/mean field limit PDE a
nd finite element approximations of stationary solutions for the same PDE.
We show that there is a phase transition between spots and lanes\, depend
ing on the speeds of the particles and the sensitivity towards the pheromo
ne field through which the particles interact. Modelling the ants as havin
g antennas seems to be crucial for ant movement. Volume exclusion is not t
 aken into account.
