DESCRIPTION:Conical basket centrifugal filters are successfully used in th
 e sugar refining process to separate dry granular sugar crystals from liqu
 id syrup. However\, extension of the machine type to other separation proc
 esses has to date been limited by a lack of understanding of the fundament
 al physics of the process. Current work on modelling the flow in these mac
 hines will be described in this talk.
