DESCRIPTION:*To register your attendance\, please "visit our website":http
 s://www.csap.cam.ac.uk/events/s-t-lee-lecture-13-june-2023/*\n\nThis lectu
re challenges the simplistic separation between human and non-human nature
which pervades environmental sciences. It moves towards a new paradigm fo
r more-than-human communication\, drawing together threads rooted in the e
thological revolution in the biological sciences that finds syntax\, symbo
lism and social learning in communication and culture beyond the human\, w
ith semiotics and anthropology. Multi-species ethnographies – here focus
ing on bats\, soils\, and forests in African and UK settings – reveal un
der-appreciated communicative connections and conversations and their sign
ificance to mutual flourishing. This focus on communication has profound i
mplications for policy and highlights the value of integrating diverse kno
wledges and perspectives across the natural and social sciences and humani
ties.\n\nThe talk will be followed by a networking reception.
