DESCRIPTION:Polyhedral-shaped particles form a broad class of granular mat
 erials. We use particle dynamics simulations to analyze the evolution of d
 ense packings of polyhedral particles subjected to fully periodic triaxial
  boundary conditions in terms of both particle-level and microstructural v
 ariables. We probe both large-strain plastic behavior and small-strain ela
 stic response under orthotropic boundary conditions. We show that key macr
 oscopic properties such as shear strength and elastic moduli are controlle
 d by particle connectivity and contact orientation anisotropy\, and the pa
 rticle shape and friction coefficient between particles affect the macrosc
 opic behavior mainly through these microstructural parameters.
