  Press.  Dr. Unruh will present an introduction to the book and the resear
 ch that led to it\, followed by questions / general discussion.  \n\nThrou
 gh a close reading of several Greek authors\, in particular Herodotus\, Xe
 nophon\, Isocrates and Plato\, Talking to Tyrants details the different st
 rategies that these authors depict\, adopt\, or recommend for enabling com
 munication between the very different worlds of the Greek city state and t
 he monarch’s court. The study is further informed by contemporary Interc
 ultural Communications Theory\, which provides a powerful framework for ex
 amining the ways in which individuals from different cultures and politica
 l systems interact.
