DESCRIPTION:Dementia is a growing worldwide issue causing a huge social an
d economic burden. On top of cognitive issues\, people living with dementi
a often develop behavioural and psychological symptoms\, sometimes so seve
re that patients need to be cared for in specialist mental health wards. H
owever\, there is very little research on the need of these patients\, the
ir access to palliative care\, or their outcomes after discharge. We will
discuss whether machine learning can be used to stratify patients based on
their likely outcome at their time of arrival to the ward\, therefore ope
ning up possibilities for better\, tailored care.
