DESCRIPTION:Emerging platforms such as Augmented Reality (AR)\, Virtual Re
 ality (VR)\, and autonomous machines\, while are of a computing nature\, i
 ntimately interact with both the environment and humans. They must be buil
 t\, from the ground up\, with principled considerations of three main comp
 onents: imaging\, computer systems\, and human perception. This talk will 
 make a case for this tenet and discuss some of our recent work on this fro
 nt.\n\nI will first describe our work on in-sensor visual computing\, the 
 idea that co-designing the image sensor with the computer systems will sig
 nificantly improve the overall system efficiency and unlock new capabiliti
 es. I will then discuss our work on human-systems co-optimization\, where 
 we model the eccentricity-contingent color discrimination and leverage suc
 h models to reduce the energy consumption of head-mounted displays such as
  Augmented/Virtual Reality.\n\nBio: Yuhao Zhu is an Assistant Professor of
  Computer Science and Brain and Cognitive Sciences at University of Roches
 ter. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The Univ
 ersity of Texas at Austin and was a visiting researcher at Harvard Univers
 ity and Arm Research. His research group focuses on visual computing\, spa
 nning imaging\, computer systems\, and human visual perception. His resear
 ch has two complementary aspects: to leverage human perception for enhanci
 ng computing and imaging systems\, while also developing imaging and compu
 tational tools that advance our understanding of human perceptions. More a
