DESCRIPTION:In this talk I will review the problem of consistent truncatio
 ns that has been central in (super-)gravity for finding non-linear solutio
 ns for a long time. Particular emphasis will be put on using geometric and
  algebraic methods and their application to two-dimensional gravity where 
 the methods become particularly striking. I will also report on recent pro
 gress in this direction with Guillaume Bossard\, Franz Ciceri and Gianluca
  Inverso.&nbsp\;
