DESCRIPTION:The Lie algebra g_2 not only occupies a special place in the c
 lassification of complex simple Lie algebras\, it also gives rise to an ex
 ceptional geometry in dimension 7\, known as G_2 geometry.  In my talk\, I
  shall introduce this geometry and discuss some of its basic properties.  
 Time permitting\, I shall also talk about a second\, less well-known\, exc
 eptional geometry in 7-dimensions.
