DESCRIPTION:A real demand now exists for fault-tolerant control\nsystems.
This talk gives some examples in which this arises\, drawn from process co
ntrol\, automotive and aerospace applications. But fault-tolerance is a ve
ry ambitious objective\; the talk examines what has been achieved so far\,
and what it might be possible to achieve. It also speculates a little on
how it might be achieved. The paper is illustrated by examples from real a
pplications\, particularly from the aerospace sector. Lots of photos\, ver
 y little maths.
