DESCRIPTION:José A. Scheinkman was born in 1948 in Rio de Janeiro\, Brazi
 l. He attended the Universidade Federal do Rio de Jandeiro where he obtain
 ed his B.A. in economics.  He received an M.S. degree in mathematics in 19
 70 from the Instituto de Matematica Pura e Aplicada.  He received his M.A.
  degree (1973) and a Ph.D degree (1974) in economics from the University o
 f Rochester. From 1973 to 1999 he taught at the University of Chicago and 
 was the Alvin H. Baum Distinguished Service Professor of Economics.  He is
  now the Theodore A. Wells '29 Professor of Economics at Princeton Univers
 ity.  He is member of the (US) National Academy of Sciences.
