DESCRIPTION:Surfactants are a magic class of molecule wherein two opposing
solubilities coexist within the same molecular structure. This unique cha
racter underpins a host of interesting behaviours exhibited by surfactants
\, from reducing surface tension to self-assembly. Surfactants are thus ke
y and widespread components in many household formulations such as cosmeti
cs and engine oils. I will present findings on the self-assembly of two in
dustrially relevant surfactants\, methods for controlling this behaviour a
nd the techniques used to characterise them.
