DESCRIPTION:In recent decades understanding of the magnitude and drivers o
f biodiversity change has improved significantly. Gaps in geography and ta
xonomy remain\, as well as differences in change according to scale\, meth
odology\, and metric\, but regardless anthropogenic activity is undoubtedl
y causing a marked rearrangement of the biosphere. Despite this increase i
n knowledge however\, at the global level our economic and political effor
ts to mitigate human impacts on the biosphere have so far been insufficien
 t. We now urgently need new ideas\, tools\, and approaches to help solve t
he biodiversity crisis.\n\nIn this talk I will discuss a number of my proj
ects\, each aiming to provide the new ideas and tools we need. I will cove
r real-time monitoring of human-nature interactions using online data\, ec
osystem service risk via pollinator biodiversity change\, compounded uncer
tainty intervals of ecosystem service risk\, the synthesis of evidence thr
ough dynamic meta-analyses\, and text-mining for the synthesis of ecologic
al data. I will conclude by envisioning a potential way forward for biodiv
ersity monitoring and action\, combining emerging ideas in global biodiver
sity monitoring systems\, spatial finance\, central bank digital currencie
s\, carbon quantitative easing\, and the global carbon reward. I will sugg
est that central bank coordination and biodiversity priced on systemic ris
k\, as opposed to consumption via ecosystem services\, might be a means th
rough which anthropogenic pressure can be reduced towards bending the curv
 e of biodiversity loss.
