DESCRIPTION:The mechanical properties of tissues play an important role fo
r their growth and even in some circumstances for gene expression.\nThey a
re particularly important for cancerous tissues and tissues during early d
evelopment. I will show in this talk that at a macrocopic scales\, tissues
can be considered as visco-elastic fluids and show some effects associate
d to their activity such as spontaneous flows and active turbulence. \nA m
ore microscopic study at the cell scale based on the so-called&nbsp\; vert
ex model shows that under strong deformations\, tissues ate thixothropic f
luids and that at long times\, they are shear thinning fluids. As also sho
wn by existing numerical simulations\, tissues formed by dividing cells do
not have a finite yield stress.
