DESCRIPTION:By following the implications of Hawking's original discovery 
 that black holes are thermodynamic systems that radiate and have a definit
 e temperature and entropy\, one is led to the idea that\, at the quantum&n
 bsp\;level\, spacetime is holographic. This talk will review these argumen
 ts that ultimately suggest that our world of three space and one time dime
 nsion is just a hologram of a reality consisting of two space and one time
  dimensions.
