DESCRIPTION:We study transverse impacts of rigid objects on a free elastic
 \nmembrane\, using thin circular sheets of natural rubber as experimental\
 nmodels. We report on a set of experiments and theoretical remarks on\nthe
  occurrence of a wrinkling instability. We also describe the\ndynamics of 
 the impacted membrane when it stands on a liquid\nsubstrate. Applications 
 to the fracture pattern of glass windows and\nto celestial impacts will be
  discussed.
