DESCRIPTION:I will start by describing Khovanov's idea of "knot homology".
The goal\nis to find bi- and tri-graded vector spaces whose graded Euler\
ncharacteristics are classical polynomial knot invariants (like the Jones\
nor HOMFLYPT polynomial). I will then explain how HOMFLYPT homology can\nb
e given a transparent construction using techniques from geometric\nrepres
entation theory. This creates a bridge between link homology and\ntechniqu
es which have been developed for studying the characters of\nfinite groups
  of Lie type.
