 ate voluntarily on collective and ambitious goals. Archaeological evidence
  for spectacular goldwork\, sophisticated textiles\, or the long-distance 
 transport of exotic materials in societies without kings or emperors provi
 des proof of this point. But how can complex technological systems be sust
 ained in the absence of coercive political administrations? The REVERSEACT
 ION team is trying to answer this question. We are employing archaeologica
 l science methods in collaboration with environmental studies\, anthropolo
 gy\, sociology\, management studies and crafts\, to provide new perspectiv
