DESCRIPTION:This paper presents a coherent probabilistic framework for tak
ing account\nof allelic dropout\, stutter bands and silent alleles when\n
interpreting short tandem repeat DNA profiles from a mixture sample using
\npeak size information. This information can be exploited to make\ninfere
nces regarding the genetic profiles of unknown contributors to the\nmixtur
e\, or for evaluating the evidential strength for a\nhypothesis that DNA f
rom a particular person is present in the mixture.It\nextends an earlier B
ayesian network approach that ignored\nsuch artifacts. We illustrate the
use of the extended network on a published\ncriminal casework example.\nTh
 is is joint work with R. G. Cowell and S. L. Lauritzen\n
