DESCRIPTION:To celebrate Disability History Month 2023\, the Disabled Staf
f Network of the University of Cambridge invites you to a hybrid screening
of the documentary Crip Camp - A disability Revolution. The film tells th
e story of a revolution blossomed in the early 1970s\, in Camp Jened\, a r
amshackle summer camp for teenagers with disabilities\, transforming their
lives and igniting a landmark movement.\n\nCrip Camp is about the emotion
al experience of finding community and yourself for the first time and the
power of realising that a better life is possible through social change.
According to the production team\, the film tells the story of one group o
f people and captures one moment in time. There are hundreds\, if not thou
sands\, of other equally important stories from the Disability Rights Move
ment that have not yet received adequate attention. During this Disability
History Month\, the University’s Disabled Staff Network organises this
screening and discussion hoping to create a safe space and opportunity for
reflecting on and sharing such stories. In these challenging times\, we a
re aware that meeting each other and building community against the inters
ectional marginalisations we experience in and outside of work is urgent f
or all of us.\n\nThe room is fully accessible\, and we will make sure that
all the necessary precautions against COVID-19 are kept.
