DESCRIPTION:I will discuss correlation experiments in settings where syste
ms are described in terms of their observable algebras\, as is often the c
ase in QFTs or statistical mechanics with infinite degrees of freedom. Her
e\, inequivalent ways of model bipartite systems exist (known as the “te
nsor product model” and the more general “commuting operator framework
”).\nTo study the question in the title\, we generalise the concept of t
he Schmidt rank to bipartite states in the commuting operator framework. I
will explain operational and algebraical definitions of the Schmidt rank.
If time permits I will discuss the example of ground states on infinite 1
d spin chains which are viewed as bipartite state for the left and right h
 alf chains.\n
