smog we are still wrestling the impacts of air pollution on our health. Mo
re than 60\,000 scientific papers have been published on air pollution and
health. Over half of these have been published in the last decade\, but a
ir pollution policy and action lags behind and remains largely framed in t
he science of the 20th century and not the 21st.\n\nAs researchers it is t
empting to focus on what we don’t know\, including gaps in our epidemiol
ogical evidence. However\, there is ample evidence that actions to improve
air pollution also improve health.\n\nAbout Dr Fuller\nGary Fuller is a t
hree UKRI Clean Air Champions working to provide leadership and coordinati
on across the Clean Air Programme and within the wider research and stakeh
older community.\n\nHis research interests focus on urban air pollution\,
how it is changing and how it affects our health.\n\nGary is passionate ab
out communicating air pollution science to policymakers and the public. He
is a member of Defra’s Air Quality Expert Group and a regular contribut
 or to the Guardian newspaper.
