DESCRIPTION:Since the Human Genome Project's completion in 2003\, scientis
ts have been on a steadfast track to unlock the genome's secrets\, especia
lly regarding health and disease. We've made progress in identifying alter
ations in the genome\; however\, the interpretation of which changes can b
e attributable to disease has been slow. In addition to genomics\, we've n
ow ventured into other omic technologies\, such as metabolomics\, to achie
ve our goals. Using a case study of metabolomics in the most heritable can
cer syndromes\, pheochromocytoma and paragangliomas\, I hope to convince y
ou that we are on the edge of translating omics to the clinic.
