DESCRIPTION:Starling Technology reduces accidents by bringing dynamic real
-time pedestrian safety to crossings and streets. Their technology\, teste
d and verified at a crossing on East Road in Cambridge\, uses cameras with
AI to identify different types\, numbers and behaviour of users so it can
learn to predict when people will want to cross the road. Linked smart tr
affic signals could then automatically adjust\, based on the amount of tra
ffic and the number of pedestrians who want to cross at a particular locat
ion to keep people moving. \n\nIn this talk\, Andrew Caleya Chetty\, co-fo
under and CEO of Starling Technologies\, and Dominik Zisch\, Principal Sof
tware Engineer\, will explain why changes are happening to our towns and c
ities and how they use AI and Machine Learning to safeguard pedestrians an
d cyclists to create a more efficient traffic flow. At the same time\, Sta
rling's interventions will reduce the impact of pollution and lay the grou
ndwork for the harmonious integration of autonomous vehicles. Andrew Cale
ya Chetty is director and partner at Starling Technologies\, and over the
years\, he has founded many cultural\, technology and entertainment initia
tives for interactive\, participatory physical spaces. With two decades of
experience in technology deployment and product creation\, in particular\
, working with cities throughout the world\, his expertise spans everythin
g from developing robust financial models for cutting-edge technology prop
ositions to managing logistics and production for complex urban technology
deployments.\n\nDominik is Principal Software Engineer at Starling Techno
logies. He’s a key figure\, drawing on extensive knowledge in diverse fi
elds\, including architectural technology and theoretical physics to advan
ce software engineering. At UCL\, he educates future innovators on the MAr
ch Design for Performance and Interaction course\, fostering a learning en
vironment rich in technological advancement. Dominik has a particular inte
rest in distributed systems and AI/ML technologies\, seeking new ways to h
 arness their capabilities.
