DESCRIPTION:For the past decade I have been working on a book about the hi
story of the emotional world economy. Not the history of emotions\, but a
bout affectively-charged arguments about how people came to depend on othe
rs for survival and prosperity and what it has meant for others to depend
on them. Or us. The story begins in the mid-eighteenth century. What I
will present is the final chapter about the winding and unwinding of what
came to be called globalization (the latest shorthand for interdependence)
\, focusing on the arguments and counter-arguments about resources\, expan
sion\, limits\, and life in an uncentered but integrated world.
