DESCRIPTION:Karen Vousden\, Loic Mervant\, Vassilis Papalazarou and Eric C
 heung\n\nThe Francis Crick Institute\, London NW1 1AT\, UK\n\nThe environm
ent in which a cancer develops has a significant impact on the success of
malignant progression and will determine the requirements and vulnerabilit
ies of the tumour\, particularly as the environment changes during metasta
tic dissemination. We have been exploring the how metabolic changes and in
creased ROS in cancer cells drive both cell intrinsic and cell extrinsic e
ffects\, to promote tumour-supporting alterations in the tumour microenvir
onment (TME). Tumour-derived signals also affect whole body metabolism to
induce nutrient release from fat and muscle and to prime metastasis niches
to be more welcoming to disseminating cancer cells. Understanding and mod
ulating the crosstalk between the tumour and the body may lead to new ther
apeutic options and provide novel circulating biomarkers to detect and fol
 low cancer development. \n
