DESCRIPTION:The use of persistently exciting data has recently been popula
rized in the context of data-driven analysis and control. Such data have b
een used to assess system-theoretic properties and to construct control la
ws\, without using a system model. Persistency of excitation is a strong c
ondition that also allows unique identification of the underlying dynamica
l system from the data. \n \nIn the first part of the talk\, I will introd
uce the data informativity framework in order to work with data that are n
ot necessarily persistently exciting. Within this framework\, I will prese
nt necessary and sufficient conditions on the informativity of data for se
veral data-driven analysis and control problems. When such informativity c
onditions hold\, it is possible to construct controllers from the given da
ta that do not necessarily determine the underlying system uniquely.\n \nT
he second part of the talk will briefly address the important issue of onl
ine experiment design within the data informativity framework. Finally\, t
he last but more extensive segment of the talk will present an online expe
riment design for system identification in the minimum possible steps. \n\
