DESCRIPTION:Engineering the collective state of a dense spin ensemble can
turn it into a robust quantum memory or a multi-qubit computational regist
er. Recent experimental progress in dense central spin systems\, particula
rly in enhancing the electronic coherence time in semiconductor quantum do
ts\, motivates the design of control protocols that use a central-spin qub
it as a convenient proxy to engineer both classical and quantum resource s
tates of a mesoscopic spin system. In this talk\, I will give a brief intr
oduction to the relevant physics and cover some of the recent successes an
 d challenges that lie ahead.
