DESCRIPTION:Escherichia coli is the most studied microbe to date and its g
enomic and phenotypic evolution has been mapped to a great detail over sev
eral decades. However\, significant knowledge gaps remain to explain the s
table equilibria of clone population frequencies and transient population
changes discovered using representative high-resolution genomic surveys. H
ere we review recent results based on in-depth analysis of the E. coli pla
smidome and its importance for understanding the Game of Clones.
