DESCRIPTION:Note: CHANGE OF VENUE: NOW ONLINE\n\nCGHR runs a Practitioner 
 Series each year in Lent term\, which often features rights activists\, ai
 d practitioners and journalists etc. Our speakers relate stories about the
 ir own experience — how they came to work in the field that they are in 
 — with details about what the work itself involves. The session thus off
 ers a combination of substantive discussion of the speaker’s work and cr
 itical views on the challenges of working in their area\, as well as perso
 nal and practical insights into how they ended up doing what they do and h
 ow they would advise others thinking about practice/policy as a possible f
 uture after studies/research.\n\nCGHR ’s Practitioner Series provides st
 udents (both undergrads and postgrads) and researchers with the chance to 
 ask questions of people that they might not normally have access to.\n\nIn
  this talk\, we speak to Albert Fox Cahn\, founder and executive director 
 of the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project’s ( S.T.O.P.’s). He i
 s also a Practitioner-in-Residence at N.Y.U Law School’s Information Law
  Institute and a fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Carr Center For 
 Human Rights Policy\, Yale Law School’s Information Society Project\, As
 hoka\, and TED.\nAs a lawyer\, technologist\, and activist\, Albert has be
 come a leading voice on how to govern and build the technologies of the fu
 ture. He started S.T.O.P. with the belief that local surveillance is an un
 precedented threat to public safety\, equity\, and democracy.\nAlbert is a
  frequent commentator\, with more than 100 articles in the New York Times\
 , Boston Globe\, Guardian\, WIRED\, Slate\, NBC Think\, Newsweek\, and oth
 er publications. His TED Talk has been viewed hundreds of thousands of tim
 es. He frequently lectures at leading universities and speaks at leading t
 echnology governance forums. Albert previously served as an associate at W
 eil\, Gotshal & Manges LLP\, where he advised Fortune 50 companies on tech
 nology policy\, antitrust law\, and consumer privacy. \nAlbert also serves
  on the New York Immigration Coalition’s Immigrant Leaders Council\, IEE
 E Standards Association P3119 AI Procurement Working Group\, and is an edi
 torial board member for the Anthem Ethics of Personal Data Collection. He 
 was also a founding member of the the New York Immigrant Freedom Fund’s 
 Advisory Council. Albert received his J.D.\, cum laude\, from Harvard Law 
 School (where he was an editor of the Harvard Law & Policy Review)\, and h
