DESCRIPTION:Individual neurons integrate information through biophysical m
echanisms\, possibly resulting in an action potential. This is commonly in
terpreted as a decision-making process. Networks of neurons thereby become
networks of decision makers\, with the ``decision\,'' or output\, of one
neuron naturally becoming an input to another. Such cooperating decision m
akers formally define a mathematical game. I show how the columnar organiz
ation of visual cortex can be modelled in particular as a polymatrix game\
, with payoff terms based on the synaptic value of long-range horizontal c
 onnections.
