DESCRIPTION:The UK has been a leader in Antarctic science and exploration
for more than 200 years. The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is the UK’s
national Antarctic operator\, and has for the past 60 years been responsi
ble for most of the UK’s scientific research in Antarctica. The nature o
f the geology undertaken by BAS has changed significantly over the last tw
o centuries. This talk will describe the geology undertaken by BAS\, compa
re the changing conditions of life in the field\, and compare past survey
work with the nature of science undertaken today.\nWe are very lucky to ha
ve a speaker from the BAS this year\, and this promises to be a highly enj
oyable talk. We urge you all to come along - as usual\, refreshments will
 be provided. Everybody welcome.
