DESCRIPTION:The next St Catharine’s Political Economy Seminar will be he
 ld on Monday\,29 April 2024. Professor Paul Collier will give a talk on 
 “A New Economics for Left Behind Places: how downward spirals can be rev
 ersed”. The seminar will beheld in the Ramsden Room at St Catharine’s 
 College from 6.00-7.30 pm. All are welcome. The seminar series is supporte
 d by the Cambridge Journal of Economics and the Economics and Policy Group
  at the Cambridge Judge Business School.\n\nTalk Overview\nThis presentati
 on will be in advance of the soon to be published\, June 2024\, book by Pr
 ofessor Collier of the same title ' A New Economics for Left Behind Places
 : how downward spirals can be reversed'\n\nSpeaker Overview:\nPaul is Prof
 essor of Economics and Public Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government
  in Oxford and a Professorial Fellow of St Antony’s College. From 1998
 –2003 he took a five-year Public Service leave during which he was Direc
 tor of the Research Development Department of the World Bank. Collier is c
 urrently a Director of the International Growth Centre. His research cover
 s the causes and consequences of civil war\, the problems of democracy in 
 low-income and natural resources rich societies and how to create liveable
  and productive cities in rapidly urbanising developing countries. From 20
 17-2018\, Collier was the academic co-director of the LSE-Oxford Commissio
 n on State Fragility\, Growth and Development.
