DESCRIPTION:Having spent time reading dusty and faded manuscripts of medie
 val wills\, court proceedings and private papers\, I have attempted to rec
 onstruct an incident that happened in one family of gentry\, where the mot
 her was fighting with her daughters-in-law over family estates. The twists
  and turns of this story give some insight into the life of medieval women
 \, who often were hostages of circumstance but found ways to achieve their
  ends.
