DESCRIPTION:Oxygenic photosynthesis supports the majority of Earth’s eco
 systems\; however\, when compared to other metabolic processes\, life’s 
 ability to harness solar energy\, reduce CO2\, and oxidize water emerged r
 elatively late. Instead\, earlier ecosystems were powered by water-rock re
 actions. This talk will discuss the ecology of rock-powered ecosystems and
  how these observations provide important constraints for the search for l
 ife in the universe.\n\n
