DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, based on his recently published book\, Dr. Poll
 itt will discuss the four main potential sources of decarbonisation of the
  electricity system: nuclear\, carbon capture and storage\, renewables and
  demand reduction. He will look at the requirements for successful policy 
 in each case and will consider the extent to which current energy policy i
 s likely to facilitate progress towards the UK's ambitious objectives for 
 decarbonisation of the electricity system. Finally\, he will suggest that 
 while the UK talks a good game in decarbonisation\, the reality is one of 
 a confused and confusing national approach to the problem\, with the likel
 ihood of finding an economically sensible path to decarbonisation being lo
