SUMMARY:Inclusive Design with Tacit Knowledge: The Image Schema Approach -
  engineering design centre

CONTACT:Sam Waller
DESCRIPTION:This talk will give you some insight in the problems of design
ing inclusive user interfaces for people with a wide range of cognitive ab
ilities and prior experience. I will present image schema theory as an app
roach that taps prior experience at the sensorimotor level. \nImage schem
a theory can complement more traditional approaches to inclusive design\,
provide a number of guidelines (or population\nstereotypes) for mapping ph
ysical user interface elements to abstract contents\, and can provide a me
thod of designing more intuitive and more inclusive product interaction. I
will present previous studies showing the viability of of the approach in
user interface design as well as my ongoing research in the area of inclu
 sive design at the EDC.\n
