DESCRIPTION:This will be a rather informal seminar\, and aims to explore a
reas of common interest. To stimulate the discussion\, I will present a fe
w examples. On one hand\, the use of optical traps with closed feedback c
ontrol over the position of colloidal scale (micron sized) objects\, and t
he types of experiments that have been possible with that system over the
last few years. On the other hand\, a new cart-pole realisation that we ha
ve deployed last term in the 2nd year undergraduate physics lab\, with PID
control of three interesting dynamical states (one of which very unusual!
). This cart-pole platform is also being used in the research lab to test
out the possibilities of real-time model-free reinforcement learning. \n\
nThe seminar will be held in the JDB Seminar Room\, Department of Engineer
 ing\, and online (zoom): https://newnham.zoom.us/j/92544958528?pwd=YS9PcGR
