DESCRIPTION:I will start with motivations for field theory in 2+1 dimensio
ns\, among which one can find relativistic-like effective descriptions of
planar antiferromagnets. I will then explain how and why supersymmetry can
be elevated from N=1 to N=2\, and will use these results to describe an e
ffective description of high-Tc superconductivity in terms of composite de
grees of freedom\, made of spinons and holons.
