DESCRIPTION:\n\nLe Morte d’Arthur is as renowned an example of medieval
English poetry\nas Sir Gawain and the Green Knight or The Canterbury Tales
. The author\nof this Arthurian classic\, though\, is frustratingly obscur
e\,\nbiographical sources scant\, how far the facts of his life can be\nde
duced from his verse unclear.\n\nHistorian Christina Hardyment's groundbre
aking 2006 biographical work\nMalory: The Life and Times of King Arthur's
Chronicler is a\nfascinating piece of detective work\, which saw the autho
ress\npainstakingly sift through the details of the many men named 'Thomas
\nMalory' in surviving but labyrinthine parish records to reveal the\ncomp
lex man who bequeathed to posterity an infinitely rich and\nmuch-loved lit
erary epic.\n\nFor this\, the latest Ivory Tower Society event of Michaelm
as Term\, we\nare delighted to host a Newnham graduate and one of Britain
’s most\nrespected historians for what should be a fascinating seminar a
 nd\nopportunity for discussion.
