DESCRIPTION:Traditionally\, communicating science to a wider public has no
t been seen as a core academic pursuit. It has tended to be relegated to t
he margins under the heading of ‘outreach’. However\, new emphases on
knowledge exchange and on research impacts mean that scientists within can
  – and indeed should – see science communication as much more central
to their work. This talk presents an academic editor’s view of how best
to exploit the opportunities by winning commissions and getting science wr
iting published.\n\nAnthony Haynes is Creative Director of the Professiona
l and Higher Partnership (www.professionalandhigher.com) and Visitor Profe
ssor at Beijing Normal University and Hiroshima University.\n\nTalk free f
