DESCRIPTION:The Wiener-Hopf method has been successfully applied to many d
ifferent problems involving scattering by floating or submerged elastic pl
ates. In this talk I will present an application motivated by the extracti
on of wave energy by floating piezoelectric plates which generalises this
earlier work. The model used applies to many other floating structures in
which energy is extracted by bending and has wide application\; for exampl
e\, models the absorption of energy by a floating viscoelastic layer. I wi
ll present simulations in the time domain and discuss the possibility of w
ave energy converters based on this design paradigm.
