DESCRIPTION:A hyperuniform system can be isotropic and locally disorderd\,
like a liquid\, but at large scales it becomes homogeneous\, like a cryst
al. This combination endows hyperuniform materials with unique physical pr
operties. At the same time\, the concept provides interdisciplinary challe
nges. This talk presents an overview of at least some recent progress from
physics and mathematics\, e.g.\, on how to detect hyperuniformity\, what
fluctuations preserve or destroy hyperuniformity\, and what might distingu
ish different types of hyperuniform disorder in the thermodynamic limit.
