DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, I will address the problem of relating linguist
 ic\nanalysis and control --- specifically\, mapping natural language\ninst
ructions to executable actions. I will present a reinforcement\nlearning a
lgorithm for inducing these mappings by interacting with\nvirtual computer
environments and observing the outcome of the\nexecuted actions. This tec
hnique has enabled automation of tasks that\nuntil now have required human
participation --- for example\,\nautomatically configuring software by co
nsulting how-to guides. Our\nresults demonstrate that this method can riva
l supervised learning\ntechniques while requiring few or no annotated trai
ning examples.\n\nThis is joint work with Branavan\, Harr Chen and Regina
 Barzilay.
